What are American odds in sports betting? The US-style price format: negative for favorites (how much to risk to win $100), positive for underdogs (profit on a $100 risk). In plain terms: minus 150 means risk $150 to win $100. plus 130 means risk $100 to win $130. “Thank God for American odds — I still don't understand how these Europeans do it.” Let's use this example. The sign tells you the direction, and the same $100 works out both ways. At minus 150 you risk $150 to win $100, so a $100 stake profits $100 times 100 divided by 150 — that is $66.67 — and returns $166.67. At plus 130 you risk $100 to win $130, so a $100 stake profits $100 times 130 divided by 100 — that is $130 — and returns $230. Lines move and books differ. Nothing here is a guarantee or a command to bet — it's how the number works.
