What is a heater in gambling? Bring money to Big Rock in Mojave Desert at dawn. Toodle-oo, motherfuckers! You're not really wearing that, are you? The man-purse? Are you fucking with me? It's not a man-purse. It's called a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one. So does Joy Behar. Let's play some blackjack! [Alan counts every card. The chips start stacking.] He can't lose. [The pit boss is watching.] [Another big win. A woman faints. Stu covers: just a klutz.] That's eighty-two thousand, four hundred dollars. God damn it, I don't fucking believe it! Whoo! Alan, you're the man! You are too, Phil. That was The Hangover. They owe Mr. Chow eighty grand, so Alan counts cards, the Wolfpack rides the hottest table in Vegas, and Stu counts it out: eighty-two thousand, four hundred dollars. When everything you touch wins — that's a heater. A hot streak — a run of wins in a row, at the tables or on a betting card. In plain terms: you can't miss, the chips keep stacking, and it feels like it'll never end. Enjoy it — a heater is the best feeling in gambling. It's a record of what already happened, though, not a promise about the next one. “I'm on a heater — seven straight. Don't talk to me, don't touch my chair, and somebody get me a drink.” Let's use this example. Say you hit five straight bets at minus one-ten. If each one was really a coin flip, that run shows up about one time in thirty-two — one half, five times over. Feels like magic. Now bet number six. At minus one-ten it still needs fifty-two point three eight percent to break even — one-ten divided by two-ten. And if it's still a coin flip, every hundred-ten-dollar bet is worth minus five dollars, whether you've won five straight or lost five straight. Ride it, celebrate it — just know a heater is a streak, not an edge. The next bet doesn't know about the last five. Lines move and books differ. Nothing here is a guarantee or a command to bet — it's how the number works.

A hot streak — a run of wins in a row, at the tables or on a betting card.
