What is line movement in sports betting? When odds change between opening and closing. In plain terms: lines move because money and news show up. Reading WHY a number moved tells you more than the move itself. “The line movement in that Giants–Jaguars game has been a rollercoaster all week.” Let's use this example. Kansas City opens minus six, sharp money arrives, and it's minus seven by Friday. Then the other team's starting quarterback is ruled out and it jumps to minus nine. Same game — two different reasons the number moved. Lines and prices can differ by sportsbook. Nothing here guarantees a result or tells you to bet. Lines move and books differ. Nothing here is a guarantee or a command to bet — it's how the number works.
