What does tail mean in sports betting? To ride with someone else's betting — copy their pick, bet what they bet. In plain terms: tailing is betting someone else's opinion instead of your own. He fires, you follow, same side. It's the opposite of fading — betting against someone. Win or lose, you go the way your guy goes. “Joey's tailing Johnny — whatever Johnny bets, Joey bets.” Let's use this example. Joey Jacoby found himself a new plan: Johnny's been hot for three weeks, so Joey's tailing him — Johnny takes the dog, Joey takes the dog; Johnny plays the under, Joey plays the under. Here's what Joey skipped: when you tail, you inherit everything — the wins, the losses, and the vig on both. Tailing a real handicapper is borrowing real work. Tailing a hot streak is borrowing luck. Before you tail anyone, ask the only question that matters: is this guy actually good, or just recently lucky? Lines and prices can differ by sportsbook. Nothing here guarantees a result or tells you to bet. Lines move and books differ. Nothing here is a guarantee or a command to bet — it's how the number works.
