What is a moneyline in sports betting? Hayes around third! He's gonna try to score! Here comes the thrill! He slides! SAFE! SAFE! The Indians win it! The Indians win it! Oh my God, the Indians win it! That was Major League — a one-game playoff for the pennant, and all that mattered was WINNING it. Nobody asked by how much. That's a moneyline. A bet on who wins, straight up, no spread. In plain terms: you're just picking who wins the game. The final margin doesn't matter. “The only time I personally justify taking the moneyline is when the spread is between minus 1 and minus 2.5 — so I don't get pushed or hooked on a close game.” Let's use this example. Both sides are priced off a one-hundred-dollar bet. Kansas City is the favorite at minus one sixty, so one hundred dollars profits sixty-two dollars and fifty cents — you risk more to win less. Buffalo is the underdog at plus one forty, so one hundred dollars profits one hundred forty dollars — you risk less to win more. Buffalo wins twenty-four to twenty-one, so the Buffalo moneyline cashes for one hundred forty dollars while the Kansas City moneyline loses its one-hundred-dollar stake. You only needed your side to win outright; the price sets the payout. Lines move and books differ. Nothing here is a guarantee or a command to bet — it's how the number works.
