What is ATS (against the spread) in sports betting? A team's record when accounting for the point spread. In plain terms: straight-up says who won the game. Against the spread says who beat the number. A team can win every headline and still be a losing bet. “Did you see the Raiders are 0 and 12 against the spread against the Broncos?” Let's use this example. Kansas City is eleven and one straight up but only eight and four against the spread — they win games, they don't always win by enough. For a spread bettor, the eight and four is the record that matters. Lines and prices can differ by sportsbook. Nothing here guarantees a result or tells you to bet. Lines move and books differ. Nothing here is a guarantee or a command to bet — it's how the number works.
